Raheja Solar Food Processing Private Limited (RSFP) is a social enterprise based in Madhya Pradesh, India, with a simple yet powerful mission - reducing post-harvest loss.
Every year, over 1.3 billion tons of excess produce, nearly 1/3rd of global production, is wasted due to the lack of proper food preservation methods. This constitutes around 15% at the farmer level, 10% during transportation, and another 10% at the consumer level. Such losses affect farmers. The environment equally gets harmed as rotting food emits methane, a potent greenhouse gas.
Farming communities face many hurdles, particularly the underutilization of Grade B produce and the impracticality of daily harvesting and market visits. These challenges often result in ripened crops being left to waste on farms, intensifying financial hardships and contributing to the devastating issue of farmer suicides.
